Our Entrepreneurship Program
Dr. Montessori believed that children learn best when they are engaged in meaningful work. This work evolves as children get older. Starting in 6th grade we involve the students in “micro-economies” or businesses. The students create products, set prices, advertise, manage transactions and deposits with real money, and handle customer service. Through these businesses, they are applying their math skills, studying people and patterns, and practicing character traits like responsibility, respect, and integrity. They are thinking about other human beings and their needs.
6th Grade Store
The 6th Grade Store can be open in the morning and/or at lunchtime. They sell snacks, lunch items, and/or supplies, as well as host special sale events like Carpool Coffee for parents/students or Smoothie or Snow Cone Days. They donate their profits to the school and/or a local charity at the end of the year after researching topics and interviewing organizations -- philanthropy in action!
Middle School Business
The Middle School students decide at the beginning of the year what they would like their business(es) to be. In the last few years, they have offered monthly Pancake Breakfasts, weekly Taco Tuesdays, personalized Makerspace products at our annual Grandparents' Day event, and concessions at high school home sporting events.
Makerspace Business
Our high school students create products in Makerspace, then sell them at various events at school or in the community.
