The math program at The Fulton School is a rigorous and traditional curriculum designed to prepare students for advanced high school and college math programs. Students who prefer a less intense math curriculum can opt for an alternative sequence, culminating in a senior practical math of their choice.
Pre-Algebra provides the students with an understanding of basic concepts of algebra and other areas of mathematics. This course enables the students to make the transition from general mathematics to algebra. It emphasizes pre-algebra skills and concepts, such as variables, equation solving, and problem solving. The full range of topics needed for the successful study of algebra is presented. The course increases the studentâ€™s understanding of correct mathematical language in verbal and symbolic form and increases awareness of the interrelationships of mathematical ideas. The course helps students to develop critical thinking skills and the proper use of a graphing calculator.

This course increases the students' understanding of correct mathematical language in verbal and symbolic form and increases awareness of the interrelationships of mathematical ideas. The course is also designed to reinforce algebraic reasoning, critical thinking skills, and the proper use of a calculator.
Geometry provides students with complete geometric concepts while reviewing and integrating pre-algebra and algebra topics. This class emphasizes reasoning, logic, writing arguments, and analyzing arguments. The class helps students more effectively visualize concepts, create a spirit of experimentation and exploration, and teach the proper use of a graphing calculator.
Algebra II covers both linear and quadratic equations, inequalities, and functions; operations with polynomials and functions; rational expressions; powers, roots, radicals, and fractional exponents; exponential and logarithmic functions; conic sections; trigonometry; permutations, combinations, probability, and series; statistics; complex numbers and mathematical induction.
Pre-Calculus prepares the students for calculus. The class develops students' ability to explore, make conjectures, and think logically, critically and creatively. Also, the course incorporates technology (a graphing calculator), problem-solving strategies, real-life applications and an algebraic approach to solutions.
Calculus provides students with the concepts necessary for the standard calculus sequence. This class helps them develop the ability to explore, to make conjectures, and to think logically, critically and creatively. Students learn to use calculus effectively, applying analytic techniques as well as using technology (graphing calculator) regularly to reinforce the relationships among the multiple representations of functions, to confirm written work, to implement experimentation, and to assist in interpreting results. The course emphasizes a multi-presentational approach to calculus, with concepts, results, and problems being expressed geometrically, analytically, and verbally.
*Algebra IIA and Algebra IIB (ninth and tenth grade) cover the same material as the Algebra II class but over a two-year time period for students who prefer a more hands-on, creative approach.
